TST. UPDATE: LAUGHTER, LEGACY, AND A TOUGH HURDLE FOR FITZ

Fitz had a really strong day today, and his personality was shining through. He made us laugh this morning by saying he wanted to remove his own catheter like he did his nose drain, until he realized what that actually meant. He was able to take a few bites of food for the first time, which felt like a real win. He also signed up to donate blood and data for transplant and cancer research. His case is incredibly rare, and this will help other kids and families in meaningful ways to learn from him.

The day is ending with a setback that got our attention. He became more short of breath and couldn’t get through a full sentence without needing to pause. Looking back, you can see it in the video he shared yesterday where he was more winded than usual. Imaging shows some fluid building up in his chest. This isn’t unexpected after transplant, but it does need to be addressed, and the team is actively managing it.

He’s back off food for now while they focus on his breathing. Needing oxygen tonight after feeling like he was moving in the right direction today has been frustrating for him, and he’s feeling pretty down. We’re staying focused on getting this resolved and helping him feel stronger again.
