We are completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of support. Truly. Every message, prayer, meal, offer to help, and check in has meant more than we can express. I start to respond to messages and more come in, so just know I am working on it. Your patience means everything. We are also working on accepting help, and clearly we have not learned that lesson yet. The fact that it is this overwhelming is a testament to our incredible community. We love you.
We will have more information to share about Fitz’s path forward soon, but there is one question we keep getting and one many of you may be wondering but have not asked, so I want to answer it clearly.
Nathan’s cancer was totally random. Not genetic. Not environmental. A cell copied the wrong thing and spun out of control.
Fitz’s cancer is the same story, but a completely different type of cancer. The odds of both happening in one family are winning the lottery level. Neither of them caused it. Neither was preventable. The doctors have told us this is simply very unfortunate luck.
I thought we had built armor to support Nathan, and we did, but I can see now that we were also building our family up to be prepared for this. Steeling ourselves without even knowing it. Pity parties are fun but not helpful. It is go time now.
Fitz will take this and multiply his impact in ways we cannot yet see. He was already going to change people for good. This just adds an exponential effect. His testimony will be incredible.
