ST.“Forty Percent Burned, One Hundred Percent Courage: Luquinhas and the Fight That Changed Everything”
Two weeks ago, we were forced to face the greatest challenge of our lives, a moment that arrived without warning and shattered everything we thought we understood about safety, normalcy, and tomorrow.
It was an accident, one of those cruel fragments of fate that no one plans for, no one imagines, and no one ever believes will touch their own family until it does, suddenly, violently, and without mercy.
I know that many of the people who are here with us now, praying, sending love, offering strength, and hoping for the recovery of our little Luquinhas, still do not truly know what happened on that day that changed our lives forever.
Luquinhas was in a familiar place, a space filled with love, laughter, cousins, and family memories, a place where he had grown up, played freely, and moved around with the innocent confidence of a child who feels safe in the world.
It was an environment he knew by heart, one where danger had never lived, one where nothing like this had ever happened before, and that is perhaps what makes the memory so unbearably painful.
That day, something was different, something that should never have been there was there, a pan with grease placed on the floor, an ordinary object turned into a silent threat.
It was a detail so small and so unexpected that no one noticed it in time, because on every other day, in every other moment, that pan would never have been on the ground.
But on that day, it was.
And in a single tragic instant, Luquinhas fell backward into it.
There was very little grease in the pan, almost nothing at all, but it was enough, more than enough, to change everything in the blink of an eye.
The Silent Battle of Liliana: A Little Girl’s Fight Against Cystic Fibrosis. 3616

From the moment Liliana entered this world, everything seemed perfect. There were no signs of trouble, no warning signs. The pregnancy had been peaceful, the scans were clear, and the joy of expecting a child was overwhelming. But everything changed with a single phone call after her birth.
It was a routine screening test, the kind every newborn undergoes, that led to the devastating news. The voice on the other end of the line told them there was something very wrong with their little girl’s results. They needed to get to a specialist immediately.
The diagnosis came quickly: cystic fibrosis. A genetic disorder that would affect Liliana’s lungs, digestive system, and overall quality of life. In one moment, their world stopped. Their dreams of a healthy, happy childhood for their daughter were shattered. The pain, the fear, the helplessness — it was unbearable.
Cystic fibrosis is a condition with no cure, one that demands constant care and attention.

The family’s days have become an unending cycle of medical treatments: inhalations, digestive enzymes, respiratory therapy, doctor’s visits, and frequent hospitalizations. Life, once filled with the excitement of new parenthood, now revolves around managing a disease that has no mercy.
Every day, Liliana’s parents fight for her health. They travel long distances from their small town to the nearest cities — Karpacz, Wrocław, Legnica — seeking the best care for her.
These trips are exhausting, both physically and financially. Every visit brings more costs: fuel, accommodation, medical bills. But they have no choice; they’ll do whatever it takes to give Liliana the best chance at a life worth living.
And yet, amidst all the treatments and the constant travel, Liliana’s spirit shines through. She is not defined by her disease. She is a joyful, curious little girl with a heart full of love. Her smile can light up even the darkest days.

Liliana dreams of running, of playing, of experiencing the world without the constant weight of illness on her shoulders. But each day is a battle. The disease doesn’t let up. The physical toll is immense, and the emotional strain on her parents is indescribable. They watch their daughter fight for every breath, and yet they see her determination and strength.
