The labor and delivery nurse at Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital who published a profanity-laced, violent rant wishing severe medical complications on White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt – who is pregnant – is no longer employed by the hospital system.
The nurse, identified in media reports and state licensing records as Alexis “Lexie” Backer Lawler, posted the rant on the TikTok social media platform, stating that she hopes Leavitt, 28, suffers a severe “fourth degree tear during childbirth.” She went on to state that she hopes Leavitt “f*cking rips from bow to stern” and has lifelong complications that would cause her to have problems defecating for the remainder of her life. She then used additional vulgar language that is being withheld from this story, though the video is embedded below.
Lawler’s rant was recorded while she was smiling and wearing a shirt with a rainbow, under which the text “Trump Sucks” appears. Baptist Health said Lawler is no longer employed with the regional health system, and assured patients that such behavior is not acceptable.
“The comments made in a social media video by a nurse at one of our facilities do not reflect our values or the standards we expect of healthcare professionals,” said Ryan D. Lieber, spokesman for Baptist Health. “Following a prompt review, the individual is no longer employed by our health system. While we respect the right to personal opinions, there is no place in healthcare for language or behavior that calls into question a caregiver’s ability to provide compassionate, unbiased care. We are committed to an environment that promotes trust, professionalism and respect for all.”
A public records check showed Lawler resides in West Boca and was first licensed as a nurse in Florida in 2014. Her nursing license is associated only with Baptist Health, and she has never previously faced public complaints or disciplinary actions. Lawler’s social media profiles were made private, except for a LinkedIn profile which confirmed her now-previous employment with the health system. A search of court records in Palm Beach County did not yield any results for any previous legal incidents.
The video showing Lawler’s rant was shared by hundreds – if not thousands – of social media accounts, and garnered particular scrutiny after it was featured by the “Libs of TikTok” account, which is known for publicizing threats made against conservative figures. The video is embedded below; it contains language that may be disturbing to some viewers.
