SO. Will Roberts Faces Surgery and New Treatment Plan with Remarkable Strength and Resolve

Will Roberts continues to confront life-altering medical decisions with a level of courage and maturity far beyond his years. In a moment that underscored both his resolve and his love for the game he grew up playing, Will recently met with his orthopedic surgeon to discuss the next critical step in his treatment journey.

After careful consultation, he chose to move forward with surgery to remove a small tumor located in his pelvis — a decision doctors believe offers the strongest chance of achieving clean surgical margins and controlling the disease.

When the surgeon explained that successful surgery could eventually allow him to return to the baseball field, Will’s answer came without hesitation. “I want surgery. I want it all cut out,” he said. For Will, the choice was not only about medicine, but about reclaiming a future that cancer has tried to interrupt.

Alongside the surgical decision, Will’s oncology team also introduced a revised treatment plan aimed at balancing effectiveness with quality of life.

For now, he will pause intravenous chemotherapy and transition to a daily oral chemotherapy medication known as Cabozantinib, often referred to as Cabo. The medication is commonly used to slow disease progression while placing less physical strain on the body — a particularly important consideration after months of intense treatment.

The adjustment was not easy at first. Like many young patients, Will felt frustrated by the uncertainty and the constant changes to his care. Yet even in that frustration, he demonstrated remarkable emotional awareness.

After processing his feelings, Will reached out to his oncologist with a message of apology for expressing his disappointment — a small but powerful gesture that revealed his character and compassion, even while navigating fear and exhaustion.

Those closest to Will describe him as resilient, thoughtful, and quietly determined. His journey has been filled with long hospital days, difficult conversations, and moments no teenager should have to face. Still, he continues to meet each challenge with honesty and strength, leaning on his faith, his family, and the unwavering support of those following his story.

For Will and his loved ones, the road ahead remains uncertain. Surgery carries risks, and the new treatment plan will require close monitoring. Yet there is also hope — hope rooted in decisive medical care, in Will’s unshakable spirit, and in the collective prayers and encouragement surrounding him.

As Will prepares for surgery and adjusts to this next phase of treatment, his story serves as a reminder of the profound courage found in young patients facing unimaginable odds. His determination to fight, to return to the field he loves, and to move forward with grace continues to inspire all who follow his journey.

Please keep Will Roberts and his family in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to navigate this challenging path together. Full updates will be shared as his story unfolds.
