Angels – we need extra prayers for our buddy, Hudson D. Please read the update below and pray hard for him (and his parents)
It’s been a while since we’ve posted an update on Hudson and figured it was time for a new one. It’s one I’ve been dreading having to make because it makes the reality of it really set in.
Hudson had his 2 year post treatment scans November 20th. The MRI and CT scan showed a spot on his right kidney. After meeting with oncology and nephrology, Huds was able to get in for an ultrasound in hopes they would be able to get some clearer images of what that spot was. We left the hospital that afternoon with no answers.
Since we weren’t able to get an answers from the ultrasound, the next step was to get a biopsy done. Huds went in for that December 16th. The surgery went well and they were able get the mass out with no issues. We were able to come home the next day and were told it could be up to a week before we could have results back.
We got an update from his doctor on the 22nd that they were sending the sample out to a different lab. We had no other information other than it might be cancerous or it might not be.
Last Friday, the 26th, we finally got the results back. Hudson’s doctor called and said the mass came back as a nephroblastoma lesion – He has relapsed and his cancer is back. Even though, we’ve heard these words before it is still just as heartbreaking hearing it a second time.
Hudsons case from the beginning has been so unique that it is it that much harder to come up with a treatment plan. His doctor has reached out to the tumor board at St. Jude’s and they are going to be reviewing his case this next week. From there, they will be working with Hudson’s doctor to come up with the best treatment plan for him. Until then, we are stuck playing the waiting game.
