SAT . The Christmas That Changed Everything: A Season of Healing, Peace, and Gratitude

This Christmas was truly amazing — in ways no gift could ever measure.

So many blessings were poured out on our family that it would be impossible to name them all without leaving someone out. But some moments stood above the rest.

Brantley came off the ventilator.

Will was pain-free — no longer trapped in his own prison of suffering.

That alone was more than enough.

We welcomed people who arrived as strangers and quickly felt like family. No spotlight moments. No big gift exchanges at the barn. Just Will and Charlie surrounded by our lifeline — our people. Some couldn’t be there due to illness, but blended families showed up, leaned in, and made the most of what we had together.

For the first time in a long time, I didn’t allow petty things to steal my peace. My sister spent an entire day and night with us, choosing presence over resentment. She’s finding her footing again for Birdee, and that mattered more than words can say.

My greatest gift was simple: all of us together in our happy place — the barn — creating one more year of Christmas memories. My greatest gift was simple: all of us together in our happy place — the barn — creating one more year of Christmas memories.

Years ago, when Will was about four, Jason made a decision that changed everything. We stopped traveling on Christmas Day so our kids could truly be kids — playing with their toys, staying home, not spending the day in a car. At the time, it wasn’t easy. Feelings were hurt. Expectations existed. But Jason stood firm, and we turned it into something beautiful: anyone is welcome to spend Christmas with us — but our kids don’t travel on Christmas Day.

It was the best family decision we ever made.

I know one day this will change. Our kids will grow up, build families of their own, and create traditions that look different. But until then, I will soak in every single Christmas we get together — full of love, grace, and gratitude.

This Christmas will stay with me forever.
