SAT . Rudy Garza Jr., 21 — A Future Interrupted by a Single Act of Violence

A gunshot wound to the head.

In an instant, the future he worked so hard to build was put on hold.

Rudy Garza Jr. is a senior at University of Texas at Austin, majoring in mechanical engineering.
He was set to graduate this May — a milestone not just for himself, but for his entire family.

Rudy is the first in his Hispanic family to walk this path.
His education represents sacrifice. Hope. Generational change.

Instead of preparing for graduation, he is now in the ICU.
He remains in critical condition. Doctors are working around the clock. There may be more surgeries ahead — and a long, uncertain road to recovery.

Rudy’s mother is a nurse. She has spent her career caring for others in their most vulnerable moments.

Now, she sits beside her own son’s hospital bed.

But here’s what else matters:

More than 100 of Rudy’s friends — from high school and college — have shown up at the hospital with food, notes, and love.
That’s who Rudy is. A young man who shows up for people.

Now, he needs us to show up for him.

Please pray for Rudy’s brain to heal.
For the swelling to decrease.
For steady hands in every procedure.
For peace to surround his mother as she waits.

“Mi hijo Rudy es el orgullo de nuestra familia… Hoy está luchando por su vida.”
“My son Rudy is the pride of our family… Today he is fighting for his life.”

Tonight, let’s fight with them — in prayer.

Please share.
