SAT . OFFICER ELIJAH GARRETSON KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY AT JUST 27 – A HERO GONE TOO SOON

On January 10, 2026, Officer Elijah Garretson made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. He was only 27 years old.
The Copperas Cove Police Department in Texas reported that Elijah was shot while attempting to arrest a wanted suspect. He was rushed to the hospital, but despite every effort by medical staff, his life could not be saved. His passing has left his family, fellow officers, and the entire community heartbroken.
Before becoming a police officer, Elijah proudly served his country in the United States Army for seven years. Stationed at Fort Hood, he rose to the rank of Sergeant before completing his military service in June 2024. After leaving the Army, he followed his lifelong dream of continuing to serve others by becoming a police officer.
Elijah’s courage and character were evident from the beginning of his law enforcement journey. On June 13, 2025, during police academy training, he saved the life of a fellow cadet who suffered cardiac arrest. Department officials later announced that Elijah graduated as the top student in his academy class.
Though he had only served as a police officer for seven months, his positive impact on the community was already deeply felt. He was known for his dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to protecting others.
Following his tragic passing, Elijah’s aunt, Dara Garretson, launched a GoFundMe campaign on January 16, 2026, to support his family. So far, the community has raised over $30,500. Dara shared:
“The proceeds from these donations will primarily go into a trust for the education, care, and raising of his daughter Elliana.”
The fundraising goal is $118,000, chosen in honor of Elijah’s badge number — 118.
He leaves behind his loving wife Lexi and their five-year-old daughter, Elliana, who will grow up knowing her father as a true hero.
Elijah Garretson — soldier, police officer, husband, and father — fulfilled his mission as a protector.
“Elijah, you did all you could do. Now it is time to rest.”
