Chance is in critical condition. He just had another emergency and is now on 100% oxygen, only two settings away from intubation.
He’s experiencing delirium. The doctors are having to give him additional medications just to calm his body, because he is fighting so hard to breathe that he’s burning through every ounce of strength he has left.
This morning, Duke called to say they have a bed and can accept him — but everything stalled because of the holiday while insurance approval is pending. A flight team can come get him, but the cost is $19,636.57 upfront — money I simply do not have.
The social worker laid out our reality:
• Option 1: Insurance pays — unlikely due to the specifics of his plan
• Option 2: Duke accepts him on the promise insurance will pay… or I pay the $19,000
• Option 3: Wait — and waiting is terrifying
Right now, five different air transport teams are working behind the scenes trying to get my sweet boy back to Duke. I had no idea it would be this hard. Tonight, I feel the full weight of it all.
I am beyond grateful for the people fighting with us —

To insurance, he is a number.
To me, he is my whole world — the reason I breathe.
I may have to start a fundraiser to get him home. I don’t know yet. There are still so many unknowns, but tonight I am gearing up for war.

Today they gave magnesium, continuous potassium, and Lasix. His levels were dangerously low — he was on the edge of cardiac arrest while drowning in his own lungs.
But we are still here.
