SAT . Hollywood icon Rob Reiner, who rose to fame on “All in the Family” before becoming a celebrated director of classic movies, has died at the age of 78. He and his wife, Michele, were discovered dead in their Brentwood, California, home on Sunday. Los Angeles police are currently investigating.

Film director Rob Reiner responded to the killing of Charlie Kirk in September with “absolute horror.”

Reiner, who was found dead in his home with his wife on Sunday, was asked about Kirk’s murder during a September appearance on television with Piers Morgan.

“Horror. Absolute horror,” Reiner said when asked about Kirk’s death. “I unfortunately saw the video of it, and it is indescribable, it’s beyond belief what happened to him. That should never happen to anybody. I don’t care what your political beliefs are. That’s not acceptable. That’s not a solution.”

“I felt like what his wife said at the memorial they had was exactly right. Totally, I believe, I’m Jewish but I believe in the teachings of Jesus. I believe in do unto others, and I believe in forgiveness, and what she said was to me beautiful,” he added.

Los Angeles police are investigating the death of famous film director Rob Reiner as a homicide Monday after he and his wife were found dead with stab wounds inside their home.

Police said they are investigating the deaths of Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner as an “apparent homicide.”

The couple’s 32-year-old son, screenwriter Nick Reiner, is being looked at as a person of interest in the case, law enforcement sources told the New York Post. Nick has struggled with homelessness and mental health issues in recent years.

“I was homeless in Maine. I was homeless in New Jersey. I was homeless in Texas I spent nights on the street. I spent weeks on the street. It was not fun,” he told People in an interview in 2016.

LAPD Detective Chief Alan Hamilton assured neighbors of Reiner that they were safe following the incident, but he said a suspect has yet to be arrested in the case.

“Rob Reiner is one of the most significant figures in the history of film and television. The impact he made on American culture simply can’t be overstated. Tributes will pour in and the impossibly long list of genre defining films and indelible performances will play in our minds and hearts. Rob Reiner was a member of our union for nearly 60 years. We send love and warmth to Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner’s families, friends and colleagues,” Astin said.

“Our entertainment community and audiences around the world will mourn deeply. On a personal note, so many of Mr. Reiner’s films and performances made me think, made me emotiohnal and especially they made me laugh really hard. That’s how I will remember him,” he added.

Los Angeles Fire Department officials responded to a home on the 200 block of Chadbourne Ave. at around 3:30 p.m. where two bodies were discovered, Fox News Digital confirmed. They were identified as Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner.

Circumstances surrounding the deaths were not immediately available.
