sat . Deputy Stopped to Help a Stranger. Now He’s Fighting for His Life.

At 3:40 a.m., off-duty Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Kenneth Lewis made a decision that law enforcement officers make every day — even when they don’t have to.
Driving his personal vehicle along I-10 near Eldridge Road in Houston, he noticed a stranded motorist and pulled over to help.
Moments later, he was struck by a passing vehicle.
The driver didn’t stop.
Deputy Lewis was rushed to a Houston hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
He wasn’t on duty.
He wasn’t required to act.
He simply chose to help a stranger in the dark.
Now, his family and fellow deputies are asking for prayers — for healing, for strength, for justice.
Authorities are urging anyone who was near I-10 and Eldridge around 3:40 a.m., or who may have seen anything suspicious, to come forward. Even the smallest detail could make a difference.
He stopped when someone else needed help.
Now the community is being asked to do the same.
