SAT .A LONG NIGHT, A FRAGILE RECOVERY: JESSICA’S FIGHT AFTER A SEIZURE EMERGENCY

Here’s my Jessica.

Last night, everything changed in a matter of minutes.

She suffered an hour-long episode of status epilepticus seizures—a medical emergency where the seizures wouldn’t stop. Nothing worked to control them except propofol, a powerful sedative used as a last resort.

We reached the emergency veterinarian within 30 minutes of her first seizure. The clinic is half an hour away—and we flew. When she arrived, her gums were blue, and she was listed as critical.

For a terrifying stretch of time, there were no guarantees.

Tonight, she’s home.

Jessica is now on round-the-clock Keppra, beginning the slow process of recovery. Her vision is gradually returning, but she’s not herself yet. She wanders aimlessly through the house, pacing without purpose—confused, restless, distant. It’s hard to watch, especially knowing this is the first seizure she’s ever had.

For her family, this is all new territory. New medications. New fears. New questions with no clear answers yet.

“She’s alive,” her owner shared. “And I’m grateful. But she’s just not back yet.”

Recovery after severe seizures can take time—hours, days, sometimes longer. For now, it’s about monitoring, patience, and hope that each hour brings her a little closer to herself.

Jessica survived the night.
And tonight, that’s everything.
