LDL. Texas Baby Levi Waits for a Heart That Could Save His Life

Levi didn’t ask for any of this — yet from before he was even born, his life has been defined by a battle most adults could not imagine.

Doctors diagnosed Levi with a severe congenital heart condition during pregnancy, leaving his parents, Leroy and Irisbeth, facing a future filled with uncertainty, fear, and faith. From that moment forward, their lives became centered on one thing: keeping their baby alive.

Since his birth, Levi has already endured seven open-heart surgeries — each one performed to stabilize a heart that simply cannot function on its own. Despite every effort from doctors, Levi’s heart continues to weaken.

Now, specialists at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston have delivered devastating clarity: Levi’s heart is too damaged for further surgical repair. A heart transplant is his only chance to survive.

While Levi waits for a donor, his tiny life remains in a fragile balance. Every day is filled with monitors, medications, and constant medical care. His parents have been forced to leave their home behind, spending months inside hospital walls — unable to plan for tomorrow, unable to do anything but hope.

“Every breath feels borrowed,” Irisbeth said. “We are just praying for a miracle — for a heart, for a chance to take our baby home, to hear his laughter in a place that isn’t a hospital.”

For Leroy and Irisbeth, faith is all they have left to lean on. They dream of a day when Levi can leave the ICU, feel sunlight on his face, and live the childhood he has been fighting for since before he was born.

Until then, they wait — for a miracle, for a donor, and for the moment their son is finally given the chance to live.
