LDL. Doctors Escalate Treatment for Hudson as Swelling Spreads Across His Face and Key Lab Marker Drops

A family is living through one of the most exhausting parts of any hospital admission: the urgent rush to act, followed by the long stretch of waiting for answers.

Hudson remains hospitalized as doctors work to determine what’s causing a concerning cluster of symptoms. While the family says they know “something is going on,” the full picture is still forming — and several important test results may take up to 72 hours to return. In the meantime, the medical team is focused on stabilizing Hudson’s symptoms and treating any potential infection aggressively while they wait for clearer confirmation.

Infectious Disease Steps In, Second IV Antibiotic Started

According to the update, the Infectious Disease team evaluated Hudson and made it clear they are taking his symptoms seriously. Hudson has now been started on a second strong IV antibiotic, signaling that doctors are covering a wider range of possible causes while awaiting results.

The family shared that Hudson is scheduled to receive a heart echocardiogram (echo) tomorrow. The goal is to ensure there is no involvement between his chest port and his heart, a precautionary step doctors take when there is concern that a port could be connected to a broader infection or complication.

Sudden Eye Swelling Worsens Throughout the Day

The most alarming change came quickly.

Early in the morning, Hudson’s family noticed his right eye was unusually red. As the day progressed, the redness worsened and swelling increased until the eye became swollen shut. By evening, the family said the swelling and redness had spread down the entire right side of his face — a progression they described as frightening and completely unlike anything they’ve seen happen to Hudson before.

Doctors are closely monitoring the swelling and reassured the family that with Hudson now receiving two powerful IV antibiotics, the likely cause should be medically covered while they continue investigating what triggered the reaction.

Platelets Continue to Fall — A “Big Clue”

Hudson’s laboratory work has shown one key abnormality: his platelet count is trending downward. Although it is currently the only clear abnormal finding, the family described it as a “big clue.”

They noted this is a pattern that has appeared before when Hudson’s body is fighting something significant — making the platelet trend an important marker doctors will continue tracking closely over the next several days.

Family Shares Prayer Requests Amid the Uncertainty

As they wait for test results and watch for improvement, the family is asking for continued prayer and support:

  • For the redness and swelling in Hudson’s eye and face to resolve quickly
  • For wisdom and discernment for the medical team to identify what’s causing the symptoms and determine the best treatment
  • For protection from gut complications caused by heavy antibiotics — something the family says has caused serious issues in the past

Despite the fear and uncertainty, the family expressed gratitude to those standing with them in the waiting, sharing a verse that has become their anchor through the night:

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1

For now, the next 24–72 hours will be critical as results return, imaging is completed, and doctors watch for signs that the swelling is responding to treatment.
