LDL. A Family’s Courage: Roberts Face Bone Cancer With Faith and Strength
Elrod, AL – Jason and Brittney Roberts have been living every parent’s worst fear: watching their child battle cancer. Their son, 13-year-old Will Roberts, has been fighting bone cancer with the resilience of a young warrior.
Yesterday, after learning the results of Will’s latest scans at Children’s of Alabama, his mother Brittney shared a heartfelt reflection on the family’s journey, offering a glimpse into the faith and courage that guide them daily.
“After reading the scans yesterday and hearing our oncologist say the treatment didn’t appear to be working with new spots, I dreaded the walk back to the car,” Brittney wrote. “We have never hidden anything from Will about his diagnosis, so as I pushed his wheelchair toward the parking deck, I told him calmly that I was going to message his MD Anderson oncologist because his chemo pill didn’t appear to be doing what we had hoped.”
Brittney explained to Will that there were a few new spots and that the PET scan was unclear on previous ones. Yet she reminded her son, “Nothing. You feel the same right now as you did this morning. All we received were words on a piece of paper, and those words do not change the life we woke up to today. They don’t change how your body feels. They don’t change the joy waiting for us at home. They don’t get to steal our peace.”
The Roberts family sang praise music on the drive home and chose to focus on life, love, and the joy surrounding them rather than fear. “I will continue to thank God for healing Will’s body of every single cancer cell. I will continue to speak life—only life—over my child,” Brittney shared.
Their courage comes from deep faith and lived experience. Jason and Brittney, who know the physical and emotional toll of cancer firsthand, are navigating each day with purpose, prayer, and hope.
“Yesterday didn’t take anything from us that today had already given. And we’re still standing,” Brittney wrote. Her words are a reminder of the strength of families who face childhood cancer, of the importance of hope, and of the power of community support.
As Will and his parents await further updates, their story inspires others to stand with families facing similar battles, offering prayers, love, and encouragement.
