GS. DALLAS DROP A BOMBSHELL: Cowboys picked the worst time to trade CB who’s now thriving for NFC foe

Hindsight is 20/20, but this trade has not aged well for Dallas.

The Dallas Cowboys are already living with one regret this season, by allowing DeMarcus Lawrence to sign with the Seattle Seahawks. Even though the Quinnen Williams trade is putting the Cowboys back on the map of relevance, things can always look better.

With Trevon Diggs’ drama adding onto the hangover of the Micah Parsons trade, Nahshon Wright is one player the Cowboys should regret letting go. Wright was traded to the Vikings for Andrew Booth before the 2024 season. While both Wright and Booth were trending down at the time, it’s clear as day that the Bears got the last laugh.

The former Cowboys’ cornerback is looking like a legit Pro Bowl player this season, racking up 54 total tackles, 10 pass deflections, and five interceptions as we exit Week 13. The Cowboys should feel some regret for giving up on Wright when they did, even though he didn’t fit Mike Zimmer’s defense.

Former Cowboys’ CB Nahshon Wright is Pro Bowl material with the Chicago Bears

Wright is not only a much-improved player, but he’s morphed into a serious playmaker on the defensive side. He’s beginning to be a lockdown corner, and it looks like the Cowboys got rid of him at the wrong time. It’s a business, they say, but it seems Dallas was too quick to pull the plug on the former third-round pick.

According to Pro Football Focus, his five interceptions ranked first out of 108 cornerbacks. It’s fair to say that he wasn’t going to get the opportunity to do that with Dallas, thanks to DaRon Bland and Diggs hogging up most of the snaps, but it goes to show how much Wright has improved since leaving Dallas.

Reuniting with former DBs coach Al Harris in Chicago certainly helps, but Wright deserves a lot of credit for turning himself into a starting player.

In the Bears’ win over the Eagles on Black Friday, Wright made a momentum-changing play against the Tush Push. The Bears not only stopped the QB sneak, but Wright ripped the ball out of Jalen Hurts’ hands before he was down by contact, and got credit for a forced fumble.

There’s no telling if Wright would have reached this level with the Cowboys. Some players need a change of scenery to tap into their potential. It would be great if Wright showed more of that with Dallas, but it’s still great to see him thrive.

It would be a travesty if Wright gets snubbed from the Pro Bowl, as he’s truly been one of the NFL’s breakout players this season.
