“HE HELD ON TO SAY GOODBYE” — Teen Battling Terminal Cancer Dies One Day After Final Reunion With Parents

Eighteen-year-old Kevin González fought with ever

Eighteen-year-old Kevin González fought with everything he had to stay alive long enough for one final moment — to see his parents again.

The Chicago-born teenager had been diagnosed with terminal stage 4 colon cancer only months earlier while visiting his brother in Chicago. As his condition rapidly worsened, his parents remained trapped in Mexico after emergency visa requests were denied.

Desperate to reach their son, they attempted to cross the border through Arizona but were detained before eventually being deported back to Mexico.

Meanwhile, Kevin made the heartbreaking decision to leave the hospital and return to his grandmother’s home in Durango, hoping he could hold on long enough to embrace his parents one more time.

On Saturday, his wish finally came true.

His mother held him in her arms again. His father stood beside him. For one last moment, their family was together.

Then, on Mother’s Day, Kevin passed away.

His brother later shared that despite the unbearable pain, Kevin never stopped fighting. He wanted to live, wanted to graduate, and dreamed of continuing his life even as his body grew weaker each day.

But above all else, Kevin wanted his family near him.

Those closest to him say he held on until he could hear his parents’ voices and feel their love one final time.

Now, loved ones across two countries are mourning the loss of a young man whose final wish was heartbreakingly simple — to spend his last moments surrounded by family.
