STT. The Unbreakable Will: A 15-Year-Old’s Courageous Battle Against Bone Cancer

The story of Will Roberts, a 15-year-old boy from Ralph, Alabama, battling bone cancer, continues to be a difficult and moving journey. To date, we haven’t received any updates on Will’s condition in the past few days. But today, I want to share the latest information about Will, a boy full of strength and resilience, and his family, especially his mother Brittney, who has been by his side throughout this arduous journey.

For Will, spring break 2026 was unlike any other for students at Sipsey Valley High School. While many of Will’s friends were enjoying family trips, Will was facing a life-or-death battle with bone cancer. Doctors had ordered Will to continue radiation therapy for an entire week, putting an end to all his plans for fun and travel.

Recently, Brittney, Will’s mother, shared an update on the family and Will’s situation over the past few days:

“Spring break 2026 may not be full of sparkling diamonds, but it’s still better than last year… when we had to live in hospital rooms.”

Indeed, Will and his family’s lives have changed dramatically over the past year. Although they couldn’t go out or enjoy holidays like other families, they were still able to find peace and gratitude.

“We had planned to do something fun when the weather got nicer over the weekend. But instead, we got a call on Friday that Will needed to continue his radiation therapy… every day this week. No late nights out. No big trips. And really… who’s complaining besides him? Not me. I’m incredibly grateful they can always get us into treatment quickly when Will needs it.”

With this information, we can clearly feel the resilience of a mother facing extreme anxiety, but also full of gratitude for what they have. Will’s vacation wasn’t a typical vacation, but they still found joy in the small moments, in the battles they fought against the illness.

Brittney also shared about a particularly difficult night during Will’s treatment journey:

“Monday night was really tough. The symptoms from the combined immunotherapy and radiation on the same day made Will feel more pain than usual. He was sweating, battling nausea, and yet he still got up Tuesday morning ready to go all the way again. That’s just the kind of person Will is.”

Facing such challenges is not easy, but Will always perseveres, never giving up even when difficulties might discourage others. Despite facing much pain and hardship, Will never stops fighting, and his mother, Brittney, is always there to encourage and empower him.

One of the special moments they could enjoy during their week of treatment was a short but memorable ride in a quadcopter:

“On Tuesday afternoon, we took a short four-wheel drive together until we all felt our hands and feet were almost frozen. It wasn’t a spectacular ride, but it was liberating.”

The feeling of freedom, even if only for a few minutes, imperfectly, was one of the precious moments they could share together. This short trip helped them temporarily forget the pain of their illnesses and feel the love and connection within their family.

Brittney also didn’t forget to thank Will’s aunt, Julie, for taking care of Will’s sister, Charlie, during the week of treatment:

“A heartfelt thank you to Aunt Julie for looking after Charlie this week and making his experience so special when our plans had to change. Jason and I even managed to have a quiet dinner out before bringing food back for Will.”

A family with strong love, who care deeply for each other and always do their best in the most difficult situations. And in an unexpected turn of events, a strange occurrence happened:

“And then… because our lives always seem to be written by someone with a bizarre sense of humor and you can’t imagine… as we were on our way home, an owl, with what appeared to be its nighttime meal, flew into our windshield.”

This story is both funny and sad, but it clearly illustrates the unexpected and unpredictable nature of life that Will’s family is experiencing.

“I wanted to stop on Highway 20/59 to look for that poor animal and make sure it was still alive. But we didn’t want to endanger anyone else… but really, how could this happen? We accidentally killed another bird.”

Their lives may not be perfect. It’s not a fairy tale with glamorous moments. It’s chaotic, unpredictable, and exhausting. But Will’s family is still living their lives, doing the best they can in their current circumstances. They haven’t given up. They continue to fight, love, and support each other.

And finally, Brittney shared that:

“Today we’re heading to Birmingham for the third day of our radiotherapy treatment!!!”

Will’s story, despite its pain and hardship, carries a powerful message about the strength of family love, resilience, and faith in the future. Difficulties cannot stop the rise of a family filled with love and strength.

Join us in praying for and offering words of encouragement to Will’s family, so they can continue to persevere on this challenging journey. Their story is a great source of inspiration, and let’s share it with more people.
