SAT . A Quiet Night of Healing: One Family’s Gratitude in the Middle of the Storm

After many difficult days, one mother found comfort in a simple but powerful moment — sleeping beside her oldest son.

The night brought rare rest. Neither of them woke until 4:30 a.m., when her alarm sounded so she could give him his medication, Cabo. Before she left for the gym, he told her he planned to try going to school that morning.

But recovery isn’t always predictable.

Around 6:30 a.m., he called to say he was exhausted and aching all over. Instead of pushing through, he asked if he could check in later around 11 a.m. His mother encouraged him to rest, and he slept until lunchtime, still feeling sluggish when he finally woke.

Most of the afternoon was spent quietly on the couch with their dog, Rebel, waiting for his dad, Jason, to get home.

Later in the day, feeling a little stronger, he decided he was well enough to take a quick trip for something he had been needing for weeks — a haircut.

“Meet Will ‘Eminem’ Roberts,” his mom joked.

The medication he’s taking has changed his appearance. His hair has begun turning white, and even the freckles that once dotted his face are fading. It reminds her of when he was a small child — her “little cotton top.”

But there were hopeful signs by evening.

Will was back on the phone with his friend Cooper, already making plans for a fishing trip in the morning. Outside, his sister Charlie filled the backyard with laughter, dancing and filming TikToks with friends spending the night.

For their mother, these ordinary moments feel extraordinary.

“Thank you, God, for the blessings during the hardest storm of my life,” she shared. “We will continue as long as you allow us to, and we will be grateful for every single day we are all here together.” ❤️
