SAT . Texas Father Survives Scrap Yard Explosion, Faces Long Road to Recovery

A young father from Texas is alive today after surviving a devastating explosion — but the battle for recovery has only just begun.

Guillermo, 24, a father of three small children, was severely injured on March 2 when a powerful explosion and fire tore through a scrap yard in Houston’s Second Ward. Workers were caught in the blast, and Guillermo was among those badly hurt.

The injuries he now carries tell the story of that terrifying day.

Large areas of his back were severely burned, along with his arms, hands, ears, and scalp. His skin was left raw and blistered — the kind of trauma doctors say will require multiple surgeries, specialized skin treatments, and months, possibly years, of rehabilitation.

Guillermo has already undergone his first surgery. Doctors removed healthy skin to begin repairing the burns across his back using advanced cell therapy. Another surgery to treat the burns on his arms is expected soon.

Despite the unimaginable pain, Guillermo’s focus remains clear: getting back to his children.

Waiting for him at home are three young kids — just 6, 2, and 1 years old — who are hoping their father will soon be strong enough to return to them.

Several people were injured in the explosion that afternoon. But for Guillermo’s family, one truth rises above the fear and heartbreak:

He survived.

And now, surrounded by loved ones and prayers, this young father begins the long, difficult road toward healing — determined to fight his way back to the three little faces who need him most. ❤️
