SAT . “We’re Not Out of the Woods Yet”: Family Watches Over Dave’s Slow but Determined Recovery

“You’re still in the critical wound stage. Continue to be vigilant about looking for infection and monitoring his vitals,” the surgeon told the family during a follow-up visit this morning.
At the appointment, Dave and his loved ones were shown his latest X-rays. The images revealed the surgical site in his foot, where a portion of bone had to be removed. It was a difficult sight, but also a reminder of the battle his body is now fighting to heal.
Recovery has been slow. Each day brings only small steps forward. Dave’s body is working overtime to repair itself, leaving him so exhausted that he sometimes falls asleep in the middle of a sentence.
Next week will be filled with careful monitoring. Home health care will draw labs on Monday morning, followed by additional wound checks at the surgeon’s office on Wednesday and Friday to watch closely for any signs of infection.
Like many families in situations like this, they were hoping to hear one simple sentence: “You’re out of the woods.”
But that moment hasn’t come yet.
So for now, the routine continues. Sitting beside him while he sleeps. Making sure he eats plenty of protein to help his body rebuild. Checking his temperature and watching for any change.
“He’s my favorite person. He’s my best friend,” a loved one shared. “The human body is an amazing thing. They say time heals all wounds, so I’ll keep praying for more time and more healing.”
Amid the uncertainty, the family also expressed deep gratitude for the support they’ve received.
“Thank you for all the prayers and positive energy you’ve been sending our way. It truly means the world to us.” ❤️
