Hunter’s family met this morning with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Purcell and received encouraging news regarding the condition of his left arm and hand.
According to the medical team, comparison images taken last week and today show significant improvement in the wound areas. Healing is progressing, and doctors described the changes as substantial.
One of the key developments involves Hunter’s left thumb. Surgeons placed a stabilization pin to support the structure of the thumb and create optimal conditions for tissue regeneration. The pin allows the Restrata matrix — a regenerative wound-care scaffold — to function effectively by promoting granulation and healthy tissue growth. An additional piece of Restrata was also applied to reinforce the affected area.
Doctors report that the wound areas along the left arm are responding well to treatment. The wound vacuum device (wound vac) will likely remain in place for approximately two more weeks to continue aiding the healing process.
Medical experts emphasize that recovery from complex electrical and soft tissue trauma is gradual. While progress may appear incremental, current indicators suggest that the treatment strategy is working.
Looking ahead, physicians anticipate that Hunter will require reconstructive tendon surgery on his left thumb at a later stage. That procedure will be scheduled only after full tissue healing and stabilization have occurred.
Surgery #8 is currently scheduled for next Monday and will be performed by Dr. Chauvin, as Dr. Purcell will be out of town.
At the time of this update, Hunter remains in recovery following the most recent procedure.
