LDL. Update on 16-Year-Old Dilynn Turner
Many have been asking about Dilynn, a student from Good Hope High School in Alabama who suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident several weeks ago.
She is currently receiving specialized rehabilitation care at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta. Dilynn remains in and out of consciousness as her medical team continues closely monitoring her recovery.
Her mom, Jessica, shared the following:
• A CT scan was performed on Dilynn’s leg. The family is awaiting further information.
• Doctors met to evaluate the source of her ongoing discomfort. After X-rays, medication adjustments, and multiple assessments by physicians and therapists, one possible explanation discussed was headache pain related to her previous craniotomy.
• When part of the skull is temporarily absent and a shunt is in place, changes in pressure can sometimes lead to what is known as “sinking skin flap syndrome” — a condition that can cause significant discomfort.
• To address this possibility, doctors are administering IV fluids to support hydration and help stabilize intracranial pressure, in hopes of relieving pressure-related pain.
Recovery from severe brain injury is complex and often unpredictable. Progress can come in small, meaningful steps — and setbacks or new challenges are not uncommon during rehabilitation.
The family is asking specifically for:
• Comfort and genuine relief from pain
• Stabilized intracranial pressure
• Wisdom and clarity for her medical team
• Clear and encouraging CT scan results
This season is one of endurance — medically, emotionally, spiritually. Continued monitoring, careful adjustments, and patience are all part of the process.
Please continue keeping Dilynn and her family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult stretch. 💙
