SO. BIG NEWS: BIG DEAL WILLY IS BACK IN THE CLASSROOM!

I was so psyched when I heard the news!

After months of worry and MRI’s and surgeries that took parts of his leg,

14-year-old Will Roberts of Ralph, AL is doing something this morning he wondered if he would ever do:

He’s going back to school!

Will Roberts is an 8th grader at Sipsey Valley (AL) Middle School, and he’s on his way to school even while he’s in the midst of radiation treatments for cancerous spots that were found weeks ago.

Will has been fighting osteosarcoma (bone cancer), and he’s shown courage while doing so.

Will’s mom Brittney catches us up to date on an exciting time:

“Just finished our meeting with school admin this afternoon (Thursday), and tomorrow (Friday) is a BIG day… Big Deal Willy heads back to school!

“We’re starting slow with half days while we see how his body handles it, but y’all… he is SO excited to get a little piece of normal back and just be a kid hanging out with his friends again.

My biggest prayer right now is that the forearm pain stays away and lets him enjoy this moment.

“Next week brings scans, and I can already feel that familiar anxiety creeping in.

Scan days have carried some dark moments for us, but we’ve learned to take them as they come and keep marching forth no matter what.

My mama’s heart worries about him getting a taste of normal life again only for things to shift… but today I’m choosing to soak up the now.

“Tomorrow (Friday) both of my babies will be back in the same building, doing something simple… just a school day- and for that, I am incredibly grateful. Count your blessings.

I never thought I’d be so grateful for such.

I took things for granted.

“Thank you God for the strength we’ve been given, and for the school family that has stood beside us through the hardest season of our lives.”

I have to tell you, I’m getting emotional posting this, and I’ve read it 3 times!

I’m so happy for Will, his sister Charlie and their parents Jason and Brittney.

May Big Deal Willy have a great Friday and enjoy his return to school.

And may we share this wonderful news with the world.
