sat . A Good Day Forward: Small Wins in Hunter’s Healing Journey

Today brought something the family has learned never to take for granted—a good day.
Hunter pushed through a restless night, sleeping less than hoped and dealing with increased pain in his left thumb, where a stabilizing pin was placed. The discomfort was real, but so was the response. Doctors adjusted his medications to better manage both pain and sleep, fine-tuning care to keep him as comfortable as possible.
This morning, wound care was completed on Hunter’s right arm and hand. The debridement process—often one of the hardest steps in healing—is already showing encouraging signs. After just one day of Medihoney applied to his dressings, the wounds are responding well, a small but meaningful sign that his body is doing what it needs to do.

In the midst of medical routines and recovery milestones, there was also a moment of light.
A painting of a Labrador retriever and ducks was brought to the hospital—art created not just with paint, but with love and community behind it. Photos and video were taken of Hunter with the artwork, capturing a smile, a pause from pain, and a reminder that he is surrounded by support far beyond hospital walls.
For those interested in participating in the ongoing drawing connected to the artwork, details are available in the photo.
It wasn’t a perfect day. Healing never is.
But it was a good one—and right now, that matters more than anything.
