SO. GO FITZ GO! — THE BOMB IS GONE!

Fitz is out of surgery and now resting in the ICU. The surgeons told us it went absolutely seamlessly and truly could not have gone better. They said he was kind and funny right up until they put him to sleep, which sounds exactly like him.

The surgery moved quickly because it was a perfect fit. We were able to see the difference between the two livers once his was removed, and the damage was obvious. They removed Fitz’s arteries and used the donor’s to ensure everything connected to his liver was fully taken out. I am beyond grateful that this ticking time bomb is out of his body.

He will be in the ICU for at least a few days before moving to the transplant floor to continue recovery. Some lymph nodes were removed to confirm the cancer did not spread, and we will still have chemo ahead to make sure we get everything attacking his system. There is still a hard road ahead, but it is one that no longer includes the bomb.

Thank you does not feel big enough for the outpouring of support. We felt it deeply. Several staff members were emotional as they told us they had heard Fitz’s story and were so thrilled for us today. The impact he is having is hard to comprehend, and we are incredibly thankful for the community that has carried us.
