SAT . A South Texas Mother’s Plea — “Lord Knows I Need My Son”

A mother in South Texas is begging for prayers as her worst nightmare unfolds inside a hospital room.
“MY SON IS CURRENTLY FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE… LORD KNOWS I NEED MY SON.”
Those are the words of Christine, a mother in McAllen, Texas, whose 21-year-old son, Andres Loera, is now on life support after a severe asthma attack triggered by the rhinovirus.
What began as a respiratory illness quickly turned catastrophic.
Doctors say the asthma attack was so violent it caused holes to form in Andres’s lungs, allowing air to leak into his chest — a life-threatening complication. As his condition rapidly worsened, medical teams were forced to place him on ECMO, a machine that temporarily takes over the work of the heart and lungs, giving the body a chance to heal.
“At one point,” Christine recalls, “the doctor told me, in these exact words, ‘Your son might die.’”
Hearing that, she says, nearly broke her.
Andres is more than a patient in an ICU bed. He is a husband to his wife, Anelise, and a father to their 2-year-old daughter, Angelique, who is too young to understand why her dad isn’t home.
He works in auto body repair, painting cars for a living — a young man building a future for his family with his own hands.
Right now, that future feels painfully uncertain.
Doctors say Andres is showing signs of progress, but he remains hospitalized, and recovery will be long. When he is finally able to leave the hospital, he is expected to be out of work for at least three months as his body heals from the trauma.
But tonight, his mother isn’t thinking about medical bills or missed paychecks.
She’s thinking about her baby boy.
And she’s asking for something simple — and powerful.
Prayers. Encouragement. Words of hope.
If you believe in the power of community, now is the time. Let’s lift Andres Loera up together and remind this family they are not alone. 🙏
