SAT . FROM FEAR TO HOPE: TEXAS OFFICER JOSE “FLO” FLORES ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY

Two weeks ago, a bullet meant to stop him from protecting the public tore through a husband, a father, and a Texas police officer doing his job.

Today — February 6 — there is relief where there was once only fear.

Corpus Christi Police Officer Jose “Flo” Flores is recovering after being shot in the line of duty during the same violent incident that nearly claimed the life of fellow officer Alexandria Cano-Castro. Just five days ago, his family shared how uncertain the days ahead still felt. Nothing was guaranteed. Every update came with a knot in their stomachs.

Now, for the first time in a while, they’re holding onto something they haven’t felt in days: hope.

Jose’s wife, Destina, shared new photos that speak volumes without saying a word. One shows Jose walking through the hospital alongside his lieutenant. Another, taken today, captures him smiling — even posing for her. Simple moments to some, but monumental to a family that didn’t know how this story might end.

Destina says they truly feel Jose is on a good path toward recovery.

She shared that the prayers, messages, and overwhelming support from the community carried them through the darkest stretch. While generosity poured in, she says what mattered most wasn’t anything tangible.

It was the love.

Jose is a devoted husband and a father of three — a man who stepped into danger so others wouldn’t have to. His family reached out not with anger, but with faith. And today, that faith is being met with healing.

As his recovery continues, the family is grateful for every step forward — each one a reminder that courage doesn’t end when the sirens fade.

If you have a moment, leave a message for an officer who took a bullet to keep his community safe — and for the family who stood strong while he fought his way back. 💙
