SAT. COMMUNITY CARE IN ACTION: SMALL ACTS, BIG HEARTS AT LSU SHREVEPORT

At LSU Shreveport, support for Hunter continues to arrive in waves—each gesture a reminder that even in the hardest moments, community shows up.
One of the latest acts of generosity came from Haley Greene of SUGAR MAMAS Bakery in Ball, Louisiana, who delivered an incredible King Cake along with a bag filled with thoughtful surprises—especially for Katie, often described as “the lady behind the screen,” quietly holding things together while keeping everyone informed.
After a long day filled with medical care and visits from friends and family, Hunter was finally able to settle in. The steady stream of visitors, laughter, and familiar faces has become its own form of therapy. Staying busy, doctors say, can be powerful—and for Hunter, it’s making a real difference.
The family also welcomed another visit from a longtime friend, Frank Dennis of Jennings, Louisiana, adding yet another moment of comfort and connection to the day.
And the kindness doesn’t stop there. Cards have begun arriving at the hospital—each one opened, read, and deeply appreciated. Trust us, the family says, every word matters.
“We love and appreciate all of you and your support,” they shared. “These moments, these gestures—they carry us.”
In times like these, it’s clear: healing isn’t only found in medicine. Sometimes, it comes wrapped in frosting, handwritten notes, and the simple act of showing up.
