These photos were taken after multiple emergency surgeries, as doctors work around the clock to save the hands of a 24-year-old lineman who suffered a violent electrical shock while restoring power for others during a brutal winter storm.
The damage is severe. The fight is far from over. And nothing about this is easy to witness — especially for the family living through it.
Out of respect, the area of greatest concern has been blurred in one image. That section is what doctors are watching most closely right now as they work to prevent amputation. Every hour matters.
Hunter’s father, Daren, shared context behind the images:
“These are some of the immediate post-injury photos from 1/25 to 1/31 — following a fasciotomy surgery on 1/26 and an irrigation and debridement surgery on 1/28 on his right hand. We still haven’t seen his left arm or hand yet, but the damage there was profoundly worse. That’s clear from what I saw right after the injury, what surgeons have told us, the amount of wound-vac drainage being pulled daily, and the amount of pain Hunter is enduring.”
And through all of this — the pain, the uncertainty, the waiting — Hunter is still Hunter.
A son. A husband.
And an uncle — who recently had a special visit from his adorable nephew, Henry.
“Lots of visitors today,” Daren wrote. “I watched Hunter smile and soak it all in. Thank you all for the love, support, food, snacks — everything.”
Doctors remain cautiously hopeful, but nothing is guaranteed. This is still a day-by-day battle.
If you have a moment, please say a prayer for Hunter. And if you could leave him one message — what would you want him to hear as he keeps fighting? 🙏
