sat . Lineman Critically Injured During Winter Storm Faces Uncertain Road Ahead as Family Lives Hour to Hour

The family of Hunter Alexander, the 24-year-old lineman critically injured while restoring power during a brutal winter storm, is still living one surgery at a time — with hope tempered by deep uncertainty.

Hunter was severely shocked while working in dangerous ice storm conditions to help bring heat, light, and safety back to people in need. The powerful electrical surge tore through his body, causing catastrophic injuries to both of his arms and hands and sending him to the ICU in Louisiana.

Today, his fight continues.

Hunter’s father, Daren Alexander, shared an update ahead of yet another surgery, explaining that even the timing remains unclear.

“We are trying to get the schedule for surgery straight now,” Daren said. “We were told last night it would be late this morning, but the computer says 6:25 p.m. The doctor’s note says Monday morning. I guess we will find out in a little while.”

The upcoming operation will be another round of irrigation and debridement — a procedure where doctors remove damaged tissue in hopes of saving what remains.

“The doctors are positive about his progress,” Daren shared, “but they have clearly stated it’s too soon to tell whether he will eventually need any amputations.”

So far, Hunter has endured two surgeries without losing any part of his arms — a milestone his family does not take lightly.

“He’s made it through two surgeries without any amputations,” Daren said. “We are just thankful for all the love and support, the thoughts and prayers.”

Doctors continue to carefully remove damaged tissue, use wound vacuum systems, and plan for possible skin grafts. They are closely monitoring which tissue will survive and which will not. While major nerves and blood vessels remain intact — something the family describes as nothing short of a miracle — the risk of amputation is still very real.

There is no clear timeline. No finish line.

Just today.
Just this surgery.
Just the next decision.

Through it all, Hunter’s family says the overwhelming outpouring of prayers, messages, and support from the community has carried them through their darkest moments — especially when they feel like they’re about to break.

As Hunter heads back into surgery, his family is asking for continued prayers — for steady hands, healing tissue, strength, and more miracles.

For those who are able and willing to help support Hunter’s family as they remain by his side at the hospital, the family has shared a GoFundMe to assist during this long and uncertain journey.
