Arthur Smith lost out on a potential landing spot in 2026, as the Detroit Lions passed on the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator in favor of another candidate.
On Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Lions were finalizing a deal with former Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing to become their new OC, less than a week after interviewing Smith for the previously unfilled position.

Smith’s future in Pittsburgh has been in doubt since it was reported the Steelers weren’t interested in bringing back any of the coaching staff hired by Mike Tomlin, unless the new head coach wanted to re-sign them.
While Smith lost out on the Lions offensive coordinator job, he was recently brought in for an interview with the Los Angeles Chargers, setting up a potential reunion with running back Najee Harris in 2026.
