LDL. FBI Joins Search for Missing North Carolina Teen as Investigation Shifts Online
CLEVELAND, N.C. — The FBI has joined the search for 14-year-old Gideon Andrew Ferguson, who disappeared from his home in Cleveland, North Carolina, on January 14, authorities confirmed.
Gideon was dropped off at home after school and vanished within an hour. His phone and backpack were left behind, raising immediate concern among family and investigators.
A large-scale search was launched, involving drones, K-9 units, and more than 100 volunteers combing nearby wooded areas. Despite extensive efforts, no physical evidence has been found.
Law enforcement officials now say the investigation may not be centered outdoors. According to the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office, investigators believe Gideon likely would have been located if he were still in the search area. As a result, the focus has shifted to digital forensics.
The FBI is analyzing gaming consoles, deleted messages, and social media activity, including platforms commonly used by teens such as Fortnite and Roblox. Authorities are examining private chats and potential contact with unknown individuals online.
At this time, there is no confirmed update on Gideon’s health or well-being.
Gideon Ferguson is described as:
- Age: 14
- Height: 5’3”, approximately 110 pounds
- Wearing braces
- Last seen in jeans, a gray hoodie or jacket, and Nike sneakers
Officials urge parents to monitor their children’s online activity and gaming communications and to speak openly with them about who they interact with online.
Anyone with information related to Gideon’s disappearance is asked to contact local law enforcement immediately.
