LDL. Whitley Miller Faces Surgery With Courage and Determination

HARTSELLE, AL — Six-year-old Whitley Miller of Hartselle, Alabama, recently underwent a long and delicate surgery at Children’s of Alabama, marking a major milestone in her journey with Cerebral Palsy.

Born prematurely, Whitley experienced a brain bleed shortly after birth, which led to her diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy at the age of two. Her condition primarily affects her legs, making walking and movement difficult.

Yesterday, Whitley underwent a Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR), a surgical procedure aimed at reducing spasticity — or muscle stiffness — in her legs. During the operation, doctors carefully snipped nerves near her spinal cord to help loosen tight muscles.

“Whitley will remain at Children’s of Alabama for approximately six weeks,” her mother, Halie Miller, explained. “She will have to relearn how to walk, but we are confident she will make incredible progress.”

Despite the challenges ahead, Whitley’s parents remain hopeful. “It’s going to be a demanding recovery, but we know Whitley has a bright future ahead,” Halie said.

Friends, family, and the community are encouraged to support Whitley with their prayers and positive thoughts as she embarks on this next stage of her journey toward independence and mobility.

Thanks to Chad and Halie Miller for providing photos and updates on Whitley’s progress.
