7-Month-Old Alabama Baby Preparing for Life-Saving Open-Heart Surgery
Seven-month-old Fisher Camp of Oxford, Alabama, is preparing for a major milestone — a life-saving open-heart surgery scheduled for next week at Children’s of Alabama.
Born with two serious congenital heart defects — Tetralogy of Fallot and an AV Canal Defect — Fisher has been fighting since his very first breath. His conditions cause abnormal blood flow through the heart and lungs, making it difficult for his body to get enough oxygen.
Despite the challenges, Fisher has been growing, smiling, and reaching milestones his family treasures. He now has two teeth, is eating well, waves goodbye, and even says “Dada.”
According to his mother, Magan Camp, Fisher had a heart catheterization in September that showed encouraging progress. His lung arteries are growing, and his oxygen levels remained steady for months. However, in December, doctors noticed his weight gain slowing and his oxygen levels dropping — signs that it was time for surgery.
Fisher will undergo open-heart surgery next Thursday to close two holes in his heart and improve blood flow to his lungs and body.
In the days leading up to surgery, his parents, Magan and Sawyer Camp, took Fisher to the Tennessee Aquarium to give him a joyful memory before the big day.
“We believe the Lord goes before us, stands beside us, and surrounds Fisher with His peace,” Magan shared. “We are holding onto the promise that God has a good plan for Fisher, and that He is already present in every moment.”
The family is asking for prayers for steady hands for the surgeons, wisdom for the doctors, and complete healing for Fisher’s heart.
Supporters across Alabama and beyond are rallying around the Camp family, offering prayers and encouragement as this little fighter prepares for one of the biggest battles of his life.
