SAT . FROM “THE SICKEST KID IN ALABAMA” TO A 2026 MIRACLE: The Unstoppable Journey of Kolten Jones

GADSDEN, AL – For 6-year-old Kolten Jones, Christmas 2025 wasn’t just about the lights or the trees; it was a celebration of a life reclaimed. Just one year ago, doctors dubbed Kolten “The Sickest Kid in Alabama.” Today, he is a living testament to resilience as he stands tall to welcome 2026.

The Battle for Every Breath

Kolten’s nightmare began in late 2024 when his mother, Whitney Groover, noticed a slight abnormality in the way he walked. The diagnosis was devastating: Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). What followed was a 2.5-year chemotherapy journey that nearly cost him everything.

The challenges Kolten faced would have broken the strongest of adults:

  • Coded 3 times while in the Pediatric ICU.
  • 34 machines were required to keep his tiny body functioning.
  • Kidney failure and a major stroke on the left side of his brain, which cost him the use of his right arm and leg.
  • Life Support: He was kept alive by an ECMO machine—a device that performs the work of a patient’s internal organs.

A Year of Miracles

Exactly one year ago, Kolten was fighting for his life on that very ECMO machine. But as we transition into 2026, the story has changed.

“Tomorrow will be a year since they turned off the ECMO machine,” his mother, Whitney, shared in an emotional update. “January 1st marks one year since it was officially removed. We will forever be grateful to the Good Lord above.”

Not only did Kolten survive the “unsurvivable,” but he also enjoyed a Christmas filled with joy, supported by organizations like Mission 44 and the Pink Heals firetruck. He is currently in Phase 3 of his chemo maintenance and is looking stronger than ever.

Looking Ahead to 2026

Kolten Jones has spent the last year learning how to live again. After being on the absolute brink of death, he is now looking forward to a bright New Year. His story serves as a powerful reminder that no matter how dark the diagnosis, hope is a force that cannot be silenced.

Let’s lift Kolten up with our prayers and support as he marches into 2026!

Why this works:

  • Strong Contrast: It highlights his status as the “sickest kid” against his current “amazing Christmas.”
  • Medical Stakes: Listing the 34 machines and the 3 times he coded makes his recovery feel truly miraculous.
  • The Anniversary: Focusing on the 1-year mark of being off life support (ECMO) creates a powerful emotional hook for the New Year.
